Adderall is a schedule II medication, which classifies it as a medication that can be easily abused if not taken under the right guidance and education. There is a prescription monitoring system (PMP) that the provider will verify when prescribing the medication. This resource allows the provider to make sure that the medication was filled and that there are no other similar medications being prescribed by other providers.
In the PMP almost all 50 states are there as options for cross reference. The patient will see their providers regularly to manage the medication.
Some providers may even request an EKG to check on the heart prior to start or at some time throughout the course of the medication.
They may even ask for a urine sample to make sure that the medications are being taken correctly and not with other illicit drugs.
